Hudson,
The mainspring shouldn't slip. The end should catch on the barrel. Is it a new mainspring?

I am working on a Manhattan Watch Co. pocket watch with the two knobs that come out of the case for time setting, and stoping the watch.
I have given the watch a cleaning and have assembled/lubricated it. When I wind the watch, the mainspring slips inside the barrel. Is it designed to do that? I don't wind it very much before it slips. The end of the mainspring is folded back over itself and catches the side of the barrel. I am wondering if I should file the tip slightly so it has an edge to catch onto the knub inside of the rim barrel. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mainspring is original.. It is very large, strong spring...(compared to an 18s Waltham for example).
