Default Waltham serial numbers by manufacturing year

Sorry to post a rather naive question, but I have managed to get myself totally confused by the Waltham serial numbers by manufacturing year shown in this website.

    http://www.waltham.ch/cgi/waltham/search.asp#

Does the serial number given for the year represent the number at the START of the year, or at the END?

To take 1900 as an example, is 9,500,000 the first number issued that year, or the last?

    Jerry,

FWIW, all of the sn/date tables are approximate. Unless a particular mvt is actually noted in a surviving factory record somewhere as having been finished on a given day, the date from any table is only a guide and it could be off by one or more (even 7 or so) years.

Watch companies neither assigned nor finished mvts in strict numerical order.

This one may not help, but here's a chart from a 1958 Waltham Material Catalog.

That chart was intended to show the first movement produced in a year but as Greg pointed out, for any particular watch it could be off by 7 years or more. I have some examples that were off by at least 15 years and there are other reported 30 year discrepancies.

By the way Jerry, the database on the Swiss Waltham site is a copy of the one on the NAWCC-INFO site. (but a bit prettier )

Tom has answered my specific question---the chart shows the first movement produced in the year. But I have taken on board the point you all made, that there is a degree of "inexactitude" in serial number/date years.

    Thank to all.

And just to confuse the issue more, the dates shown in the nawcc-info.org/WalthamDB/LookupSN site for serial numbers below 7,555,000 are not the production dates. Those dates are "Delivery Dates" as stated in the column heading on the first page of the hand written records.

A lot of people use the dates as production dates which they are not.
