    Default Fred Nicoud Key Wind

    Is anyone familiar with Fred Nicoud watches? I came across a high grade key wind key set watch made by him, it looked to be larger than 20 size. Case looked like it could have been 18k but wasn't marked so I was affraid to purchase it. Any information would be helpful.

    the company was listed in 1915-1923

    Till 1880 there is a Nicoud & Howard firm ,importers of watches, selling movements from Auguste Saltzman and Chas Jacot

    see interesting webpage about A. Saltzman

    where the pics come from.

    This movement is a patent from C E Jacot 1864

    Movement from Saltzman & Vuille 1901

    Movement signed Fred Nicoud

    Hello Hudson777 and escarolo,
    several Nicoud exist, as K.H.Pritchard as very good source telling us.

    Like for many swiss watchmakers, if they exported their watches / movements to the US, the import tarriff was very high. New York was in that time period THE turntable for gold in the north of the north american market.
    Their wonderful design and engravings confirms the leading role for gold watch cases.
    Following my experiences, the serial on swiss watch movements differs to their US american watch cases (there were many fine US case makers). If the cases was genuine swiss (for example from the swiss state Neuchâtel), there was an engraving seen: the gold hallmark from Neuchâtel.

    For Frederic Nicoud and other Nicoud named pocket watches the same: either genuine swiss hallmarked gold cases or US american made from several makers. As escarolo mentioned, "NICOUD & HOWARD" showes an ad with an address in La Chaux-de-Fonds, 12 rue St.Pierre. Sadlywise the street Saint Pierre doesn´t exist anymore. In my next trip to La Chaux-de-Fonds I´ll look for the old address as I´ve found a forgotten address in Le Locle.
    Especially Frederic Nicoud (La Chaux-de-Fonds) sold also movements from "SALTZMAN & GERARD" (they´ve a hallmark on the dial side with "J&G"). These movements were devellopped from CHAS.E.JACOT and possibly produced in a factory of Charles Edouard Jacot(-des Combes) and Alfred Gerard. These movements were also sold from AUGUSTE SALTZMAN, PERRET, SALTZMAN & VUILLE and CHAS.E.JACOT.

    @Hudson777:
    May it´s possible to show us some pictures of your mentioned pocket watch, please? Fred.Nicoud sold more than the Saltzman kind like Lèpine-V kind or the Juergensen style.

    My best regards
    Tony
