    Default ITR Time Clock

Any tips on how to handle these things? As you can see by the photo my "Spring Retainer" didn't work! The arbor for winding must be a #18(I used a crescent wrench. Any advice will be appreciated.

Greg, I tie the springs up with wire, then remove the anchor to let them down. You have to start with both springs wound equally, or you will only be letting one down. Timesavers sells timeclock cranks for winding. Big T bars. Your spring winder will be useless, unless you can adapt a larger chuck to hold the arbor.

Good Idea!, about the letting down.

What kind of oil/grease is used. Hard to believe that my normal clock oil/grease would work on this.

Unbeleivable springs! I don't think I've ever seen any so thick, except for maybe the leaf springs on my car!

I can see why the former clock repair person "Dunkin Swished" it and then took to the car wash to rinse!

Greg, I just use my normal clock oil, and Slick 50 for the springs. These were very well made movements, designed to run under the worst factory conditions.

What type of wire do you use? I've tried 1/4" hardend steel retainers and 1/16" wire...neither would not hold the spring. The last broke the teeth of my ollie baker mainspring winder!

I've never seen springs like these...they're 1/32(92mm) thick and 3/4" wide!

The wire I use is about 1/16, steel wire, the type used by electricians to tie up conduit or also used for tying false ceiling supports to the roof. Never had one break, unless you try to reuse it. Just twist tie it up. Electrical supply houses should have it.
