    Default Gilbert Blackbird Date??

Hi all, this is the latest addition to my collection. It was in pretty bad shape, but has come up OK with many hours of coaxing. Can anyone let me know the year Gilbert made this Blackbird model was make?

The only before photo I have (thanks Scottie)

Tran shows a marbelized Gilbert Blackbird for 1904. It came with white, cream, or perforated dial. Marbelized in Italian, Scotch granite, or red. Tran's catalogue picture has Arabic numerals rather than Roman (for what that's worth). You did an excellent job of restoration!

This is a very handsome job, indeed.
I have a Blackbird of the same era -- unrestored despite having once served as a home for a mouse in an out house -- and the movement on mine bears the date 1908. Face is arabic. Replaced mainsprings in early 1980s.
Over the years I've had problems with accuracy. Patience is required with the pendullum. The case is not very tight; lubricants thus collect dust and are probably to be avoided.

Hi Sowder and welcome to the board! Yes, these are great looking clocks and I treasure mine. I find that Gilbert regulating assemblies in general are quite touchy. So I fit mine with an adjustable bob for fine tuning. This one never varies more than two minutes over a seven day period.
