    Default Cuckoo clock color

    Tommy,
I have had some good luck using Flat Enamel from Testors. This is the stuff that comes in the little square bottles and is used for model airplanes, etc. The color that I use as a base is "Rubber". I think it is used for tires on models.
I have a couple of other colors of the same material that I use to tint the original color.
I always have my wife check the end results as I am a bit color blind. I am usually surprised at the results.
    Best Regards,
    Dick

Your local crafts store will likely carry a line of acrylic paints in about a zillion colors (and you can mix to achieve shades not available right out of the bottle). The brand I happen to use is FolkArt. They give a perfectly flat finish, jis' lak' cuckoo brown. For a gloss, there'll also be an acrylic varnish you can mix in or apply on top. All water-cleanup, all water-thinnable (but waterproof once dry). That's where I'd look.

Many times an exact finish or color match can be gotten by taking a sample of the finish to one of the paint suppliers that have the optical color match system. They scan your sample and a computer calculates a mixing formula. The computer will create a dry finish which is very close to the original. You will normally have the choice of paint type ( laytex or oil base) The draw back to this is the smallest quantity that can be purchased is usually a quart.
