    Default Angelus pocket watch

I just acquired a nice-looking Angelus mechanical pocket watch on the auction site. I liked the look of the watch for some reason, it has a finely detailed hunter style case with intricate carvings on the front and back. The dial has a nice pattern on it, and lovely hands. The watch is in superb condition, looks like it's barely seen any use. No sign of it having been serviced in the past. The seller said the case was solid silver but I'm not so sure, there are no silver marks.

I assume this is a late model Angelus watch (maybe from the 50s or 60s?), whose production halted in the 1970's, another victim of the quartz revolution.

Unlike the Angelus alarm clocks I own from the 30's and 40's, which feature actual Angelus-made movements, this watch features a nice Unitas 6498 movement - which I was thrilled to see when I popped the back case, because the 6498 is a well known workhorse movement, and parts are readily available for it. The watch works very well, keeps perfect time.

Anyway, thought some of you might like to see pictures of my new watch.

    Found this online at: https://www.fratellowatches.com/wp-c...guide-2016.pdf

    -----start quote-----
However, at the latest in 1977, the company Evaco SA, Neuchâtel (which also owned the brands Evaco, Everswiss and Continental) had bought the brand Angelus (which still re- mained in Le Locle, as the separate address on an advert from 1977 shows, see picture 54).

From then on, again pocket watches with Angelus signature were made (some were identical to Evaco pocket watches), see picture 54. Some of the repetition pocket watches were equipped with the same calibre of their repeater wristwatch from 1976 (ETA 2801 with Dubois Dépraz module), some were also made with skeletonized design.

Angelus alarm clocks were still advertised in 1979. When the production of Angelus ex- actly was stopped is not known (files of these years do not exist anymore), possibly in the 1990ies, because the brand was owned until 1997 by Evaco SA.
    ------end quote------

So the fine-looking Angelus watch above may have been built as late as the 1990's, how very interesting. I crave as much as anybody else a fine old vintage verge-fusée or English lever hunter watch, but it's nice to own something very recent, well-made, in the same form factor, which will tell excellent time for the rest of my life without having to do much of anything to it. :-)

Unfortunately you are right, it is not silver
If it was there would be Hallmarks of some sort on the inside of the case
They would be a grouse or bear (Swiss) or a crown and moon (German)
If it keeps good time,it would make a very nice every day watch

Thanks Les, I figured it wasn't solid silver in spite of what the seller indicated, but it is a sweet old-style newish pocket watch, swiss-made so a big step up on all the cheap chinese-made pocket watches (mostly quartz I would imagine) that one sees flooding the market. I always wanted a watch with a Unitas 6498 movement in it, and now I have one, and a pretty watch to boot.
    Cheers.
