    Default Waltham 1857 balance staff

I know there are like 5 balance staff used on the 1857, i just picked up a nice Appleton Tracy made 1875 for a little more than the cost of the case. Ser# 786279.

Any idea which one I need for this one? I'm currently just assuming its a broken staff and not a broken jewel, the watch runs dial up and dial down, pendant up it stops. The balance wobbles a little. I haven't pulled it apart to know for sure just yet.

There is actually 8 different staffs for the model 57, looking at yours it is a Old Model, and sprung over. These I think from memory take 2 types of staffs, short or long waist, part#277 & #279 respectively, on dis-assembly you will have to check it. Maybe someone else will confirm?

The Pocket Watch Database (https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/sear...waltham/786279) lists your watch as a Grade A.T. & Co.

The 1909 Waltham Watch Material has the following information:

Yep, you are correct, I mis-read the Robbins & Appleton catalog I have, read the section on the steel & gold balance wheels not the expansion balance as I should have.
