Default Seth Thomas Octagonal Wall Clock

For my new restoration project, I have just purchased what was described as a Seth Thomas Octagonal Wall Clock from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/seth-thomas-...p2047675.l2557

Although the movement has an ST stamp on it, there are no other markings on the movement or anywhere on the case. The size of the clock is 26" in length with a 10" dial face. I have done some research and cannot find this size combination or the design of the dial surround anywhere. The dial face is paper and may have been glued over the original painted dial (typical for this type of ST clock) and you can see that it is slightly off centre.

Also, not having worked on an American movement before, I cannot be sure that all the parts are there (further photo's attached) and the pendulum does not seem to belong to this clock.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Richard

It's Japanese. These were about 3/4 scale copys of American wall clocks made for use in Japan. Much later (1970s ?) they were imported into the US in large numbers.

Thanks Willie, the movement was made in Japan too? Any idea on age?

I believe Willie is right. What does the "ST" logo look like? IT might be that of Seikosha or another Japanese manufacturer. The double mounting feet on the movement and the metal discs between the mainsprings and the great wheel suggest oriental origin.

Just meaning a restoration usually is clean, bushings assemble oil, lots to do. Asian clocks, Japanese are well made, i have a few of them.

Thanks Steven, photo of logo attached, maybe the 'S' is for Seikosha and not Seth?

    Thanks,

Ok Kevin, I will clean the parts of course and then I will be able to see what more needs to be done...at first glance I think the bearings are ok. I need to know if all the parts are there...and as I said I don't think the pendulum is correct for this movement. What do you think?

    Thanks,

    Richard

If the pendulum works, i would just use it, but i dont think its original to this clock, nice looking Seikosha clock.

Hi Kevin, the pendulum rod has the wrong fitting. The suspension rod has a hook on the end (Seth Thomas style). I need to try and find out what the original pendulum looked like and then find a replacement...any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Richard

I have just done some research on this forum and the pictures below match my movement and I guess this is the pendulum I'm looking for...any ideas?

These come up from time to time on ebay. Or you can by a new bob and stick (cut to size) and hook and make a new one.
