That's a nice mechanical computer (understatement). I suppose maybe it will outlast some plastics, and other materials that are the physical makeup of today's computers. I believe the theme from "2001- A Space Odyssey" should be playing as a backdrop.

I believe the maker may have approx. 1.78% greater brain capacity than 99.63% of the remainder of the world's human population. I belive I have to recuperate- my brain has a hyperextenion injury from trying to read that article.

If it's running on Windows Xp... it'll probably crash real early! For sure on one of them leap centuries (remember year 2000).

I wonder if cock roaches will evolve enough by then to learn how to wind it. Probably the only thing that will exist then...

    Read the article.

It's a mechanical computer, not an electrical one, like the "Difference Engine" proposed way back when. The one for which the ADA computer programming language was written... even before the existance of the lightbulb.

That thing won't be bugged, one of the benefits of having a single application hardcoded into the system. Plus, the sheer weight of the pins is going to squash any moths that might try to gum up the works.

Yea I did take the time to read the whole article after my post.

The machinest comments about the design was impressive also. Very interesting read.

There still is some issue over what metal to use. Not sure from article if they where deciding on bronze or stainless steel.

To me I think it tries to do to much and because of additional complexities it SIMPLY will not perform as expected. It is also reliant or semi reliant upon human contact.

Me, I have a clock that will surpass that clock by a few billion years.

Yeah, it's a rock out in the back yard. Works like a sun dial...

    Simple always wins.
