Default HELP! Swiss Pocket watch Ident?

    Hi

I am a newbie on the board and newbie to pocket watch.
I recently acquired a pocket watch but not fully sure about its demography / origin, year made, case material, movement origin.

    Vendor mentioned the following
    - country made: switzerland
    - box dustcover hallmark of manufacturer of the case. It's "société générale des monteurs de boites"
    - watch movement has SGDG
    - He said it's looks to be based on LeCoultre ebauche, most likely cal. 3.
    - Diameter is 26mm, height without bow is 32mm, weight is 16 grams.

I would appreciate if anybody could help shed more lights on this watch. Is this really a LeCoultre? And suggest where/who in the US, could service European watch, if it is not a LeCoultre?

    Thank you so very much.
    J.

Your pocket watch was made in France and is not a LeCoultre but was made by Claude Crettiez of Cluses France also the case is French from Besancon France. Finally, "La Gerbe d'Or" was a jewelry store in Paris.

    Dear Enrico

Thank you sooo much for the valuable information and for your time in replying; it made me feel more connected to the watch.

Could you please share how you identify that it was made by CLAUDE CRETTIEZ ?
    Thank you

    Best regards

Your watch appears to have a cylinder escapement. This type of escapement generally was inferior to the lever escapement, which was ultimately nearly universally adopted for quality mechanical watches. Cylinder escapements became obsolete in the second half of the 19h Century although they continued to be used in inexpensive movements until the early 20th Century. They worked reasonably well. I understand that they can be tricky to repair. You may have a hard time finding someone to work on the watch for that reason.

They are tricky yes but usually all they need is a slight shift in any direction other than the groove/s they are making.
