Default Items found in pocket watches

I've been enjoying the "Items found in clocks" thread in the clock section of the Forum.

Over the years(looking at ebay) and watches I own(or have owned)
I've seen receipts, photos, Names scratched into pocket watches,
and other things inside pocket watches. I was wondering if anyone here wants to share
some photos(or stories) of stuff inside their pocket watches that wasn't there when new.
(or stuff that was there from new that was never taken out).

For the past few years I have been servicing my own watches and it never ceases to amaze me at the amount of microscopic 'junk' that finds it's way inside the case and movement - I don't have OCD but I make a habit of washing my hands thoroughly after handling an 'uncleaned' watch lol

I did recently purchase a non-runner and on inspection all that I could find wrong was the largest, tightest ball of lint firmly wedged between the balance and the bottom plate, I can only imagine the poor old balance had been rolling this around for years before it eventually decided enough was enough!

I've bought two literally smelly watches in the past 12 months.
One smelled like something died in it(I mean bad), and the other smelled
    like cigarette smoke(but really pungent).

Maybe you can mix a dose of 'Febreze' in with your cleaning solutions

The old smelly watches were lubricated with refined whale oil and after 80-120 years it gets rank.

I serviced a watch once and discovered a brown outer peel of an onion skin under the balance bridge used as a shim.

I've seen a couple where the seller has stated the second hand is missing - but if they'd looked a bit closer, they would have noticed it floating around loose inside the bezel, just needing to be pushed back in.

Absentminded previous owner of this watch would always be able to get in the safe if he remembered to put his watch in his pocket.

Gus was proud of his work and didn't use a code when he serviced this watch.

Not only in pocket watches but the number of times they have brought their watch in saying it has stopped without knowing or having noticed that the watch hands are trying to drag date frames or numerals around the dial.

I must admit that I was entranced by this lovely mystery lady whose photograph was in the back of a 6-size watch.

Nice lovely lady. Did you leave the photo in the watch?

Nice photo inside your watch StanJS

I have a 12s that had a unique name scratched into the inside
of it. I emailed 3-4 people with the same unique name,
and said I would give them the watch for free if they were related
but I never received any answers back.

The oldest dollar watches and some other old american PWs I have opened have had balls I suppose, of solidified oil, and have found bits of bugs in them.

I've got a 16s hunter case with two names scratched on the cuvette and back cover entwined with hearts. I've been tracking down the story for a couple of years intermittently. I've found the boarding house in Pennsylvannia where the man apparently stayed and the nearby town has a woman of the correct name listed in the census.
One William Mckinley parts movement I got on line had what were apparently fish bones in it.
