I've had friends tell me that every time they hear this song, they can picture me tinkering with clocks in a room with clocks striking and chiming.

The impact and importance of songs seem to relate to when you first heard them. We were just starting to build our family in West Virginia when Time in a Bottle was released. I had been a professor for three years and our children ranged in age from 7 to 2. It was a very good time of life.

    Tom,

The last sentence of your post reminds me of a song that was featured in a 1970 epic romantic drama film "Ryan's Daughter' directed by David Lean. That song was called 'It was a Good Time'.,

22 thousand days, 22 thousand nights.
It's not a lot but it is all you've got
    22 thousand days.

Oh dear, I'm well over my sell-by date in that case! (22,000 days is not even the traditional 'three score years and ten' that we're supposed to get, not very generous of the Moody Blues!)

There is an English "Nursery Rhyme" Hickory Dickery Dock or Hickety Dickety Dock

    Hickory Dickory Dock
The mouse ran up the clock
    The clock struck one
    The mouse ran down
    Hickory Dickory Dock

I do not know if there is an American equivalant

Yeah, I always thought that too. Maybe Graeme Edge chose a set of words that fitted rather than doing the maths.
