Which version of of "My Grandfather's Clock" do you like most? I'm only familiar with the Johnny Cash version.

I clearly have heard the Johnny Cash version as it seems to have come out when I was three. However it was always a childrens song when I was growing up and the song, music and lyrics, go back to the 19th century and said to be the origin of the term grandfather clock which is why it is an obvious choice for me.

When the song was written longcase production in the UK was pretty much over, and the clocks were seen as old fashioned which explains the basis of the song.

In Albert Ketelby's The Clock and The Dresden Figures, the tick-tock sound of a clock can be heard practically through out the entire piece, and nearly the end of the music the sound of the clock spring snapping can be heard.

And the theme song to Mission Impossible uses a rather frenetic percussion beat to simulate the passage of time under duress, almost as if the clock speeds up and slows down with the emotional tension as time runs out.

Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock Tonight": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgdufzXvjqw

This is pushing it but Black Sabbath's "War Pigs": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ6QHfZwTSw

There's that line "Hand of God has struck the hour.." Song is rather about the end of time and an unnerving expression of teenage angst.

Rather the other side of the spectrum from the happy Bill Haley song.

Look at the previous thread on the subject (above by Harold B.) and you will find a pretty long list that was put together several years ago.
Prety cool as I had forgotten about that thread.

Nevermind. Pink Floyd's "Time" was mentioned, previously. For some reason the Ctrl+F version of "find" didn't find it.
