    Default Bush & Sons

    Hi All:

Does anyone have information on a Bush & Sons watch? The dial says Bush & Sons, 17 jewels, "anti-magnetic". The movement says Deauville Watch Co., seventeen 17 jewels, unadjusted, Swiss, on the back of the movement. The word 'DOW' is on the balance wheel cock (or bridge?). On the front plate it has "AS" inside a shield-like symbol with the number 1240 below it. The movement is about 3/4" diameter. The case, stainless, is pretty fat; about 1/4" thick. It's all in pieces, apparently to be cleaned. Everything appears to be here. What is the approx age, etc? Is it worth taking the time to clean and reassemble? (BTW- this would be a 1st for me. I have not tried a wrist watch).

    Thanks:
    Paul

    Paul,

The DOW is the Swiss code for the company that finished the watch. That shows as being Deauville. The AS 1240 means the ebauche and the movement design was by A. Schild, and the 1240 is the calibre number of the movement. That makes Deauville the finisher, not the manfacturer. Without any serial number/date tables for these generic Swiss watches, aging it is a guess. I would say early to mid 1950s, or newer. A picture might help in order that we try to age it by the style of the watch.
