Default The passing of Dr. Bundens

Not being able to post this until today due to some computer glitch...it is 29 years since one of our great NAWCC Presidents and a generous NAWCC benefactors passed away.

    Posted: September 05, 1987

Warner Davenport Bundens Jr., 71, of Woodbury, a well-known orthopedic surgeon, died yesterday at home.

Dr. Bundens, an avid watch and clock collector, was a New Jersey native who lived all his life in the Gloucester County and Philadelphia areas.

Dr. Bundens was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and received four battle stars in European campaigns. He served in the Navy for 26 years.

He was chief of orthopedics at the U.S. Naval Hospital in
Philadelphia from 1955 to 1963 and later became associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Temple University.

In 1966, Dr. Bundens became chief of orthopedics at
Underwood-Memorial Hospital, where he was later president of the medical staff and a member of the board of trustees. He was also chief of Outpatient Services at Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Philadelphia for three years.

Dr. Bundens was a member of the American Medical Association, the Philadelphia Orthopedic Society, the Association of Military Orthopedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, New Jersey Orthopedic Society, the Gloucester County Medical Society, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Medical Club of Philadelphia, and many other organizations in New Jersey and Philadelphia. He was a founding member and president of the Eastern Orthopedic Association.

He was president of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors as well as president of the
    Philadelphia chapter.

Dr. Bundens was the husband of the late Dorothy Perry Bundens. Surviving are three sons, Warner P. of
Poway, Calif., David A. of West Deptford and Robert K. of Los Angeles; a daughter, Sue Ellen Renfrew of Massachusetts; three grandchildren, and two sisters, Laura Getsinger of Mount Royal and Ellen Rishel of Salem.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 14 Cohawkin Rd., Clarksboro. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at McGuinness Funeral home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury. Burial will be in Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro.

Going in to my archives, I submit the picture of my friend Dr. Bundens and his wife Dorothy, drawing a ticket from the bag of our lucky drawing at the NAWCC Chapter 95 of Cherry Hill NJ. This Chapter no longer exists. The picture is from one of many I took for a full year of our meetings. The entire year was featured the following year in a slide show I had put together, probably in the early 1980s...before both Dr. Bundens and wife Dorothy passed away. Dr. Bundens passing was in 1987. The NAWCC lost a special man who devoted many years to the welfare of the NAWCC...I lost a caring and personal dear friend with his leaving this world.
