    Default AWC CO. history wanted

I found a site that lists serial numbers and dates along with some history. It is good for a quick reference. Try www.oldwatch.com

Actually, 17246794 would be the serial number of the watch. The cases were made separately from the watches themselves, typically by entirely different companies, so the serial number of the case really doesn't say much about the watch.

Having said that, the serial number of your watch dates it to about 1909, and my records indicate that it is a 6 size, Model #1890 [named after the first year of production], "Seaside" Grade, with anywhere from 7-15 jewels. This would most likely have been considered a ladies watch and might have been worn on a chain as a pendant.

    I hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Barry

AWCCo. stands for American Watch Case Co. The winged wheel and grade "Cashier" indicate that its a golf-filled case that was made in Canada. Here's an example of a Cashier trademark.
