    Default McCabe Tower Clock

I wasnt aware that McCabe also made Tower Clocks. Hence pleasantly surprised to find one tower clock which when taken down for restoration and cleaned, revealed McCabe on the smaller time setting dial. Now I am told anout one more such clock mounted on a church which has been made by McCabe.

Attached pictures of the movement when it was taken down. Will upload pictures of the dial showing McCabe name. And keep the forum updated on its restoration. (By the way, the other Bennett clock is also restored and up and about. Photos pending from my side.-I had no contribution to its restoration, apart from waking up the authorities from their slumber.)

Sorry for multiple photos, but it was better to err on the side of over-visuals rather than under-visuals.

It would be great to see its restoration.
    Thanks

This is James McCabe, 1849, No 2689. This brings me to a question of McCabe collectors:

    1. Hackamack series is only for pocket watches. Is there any series for clocks?
    2. It seems reasonable to assume that McCabe didnt make 2689 or more Tower clocks. Hence his clocks seem to have one common serial number. Or, is it?
    3. This clock is also 'yeared' 1849. Hence, there is no doubt of year for this serial number. Can some serialisation be attempted based on such pinpointed years in other clocks world over?
    4. I only came across one more McCabe tower clock on net. I am sure there are many more. Any body out there has more idea?

    Thanks

    POM:

According to Baillie's book, James McCabe of the Royal Exchange became a member of the Clockmakers' Company in 1781. He died in 1811 and was considered a very fine maker. His business continued under the same name by his sons and Robert Jeremy until 1883. His sons were Thomas, Robert, and James. The business made a lot of watches. The best ones were signed "James McCabe," the second quality "McCabe," and the third quality "Beatson." If the naming convention holds for tower clocks, the one in question is of best quality.

    This is excellent find.
I have not seen any tower clock by mccabe todate. this is also the first mccabe clock I have seen with the year on the clock.
nos 2660, 2676,2677 2705 ,2715and 2716, nearest numbers to this clock are all carriage clocks.[ 2713 is a twin fussee calendar bracket clock in my collection] and I have records of over 300 mccabe clocks with and without numbers and this number 2689 is not seen in any other clocks and no two numbers of the clock records i have are repeated, so it seems clock numbers may be continuous. If we go 2689 by the year 1849, then one has to rethink about dating of the known mccabe clocks.
