    Default Won't stop cuckooing

I just acquired a used old cuckoo clock. It cuckoos continuously on the hour or half hour.I can only stop it by removing the weight or moving the minute hand about 20 min forward. The cuckoo won't retract either.

If you can remove the movement, check the front of the clock to see if the brass stop is loose; it looks like a brass snail located to the upper right of the canon pinion. If that is misaligned or missing, the clock will not stop going off.

In the same vein, you could also check the stop arm that engages with that brass piece to see if it's stuck in the upward position. If it is, that could cause a run-on as well. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks Chris. Armed with a printout of your instructions, I started to take the movement out. I took off the lift wires and something clicked and the cuckoo retracted. It works OK now. I can't explain it. I guess I scared it or something !!
    Thanks again.
