Default Henry Birks & Sons pocket watch (RE: Warden)

My wife has a pocket watch and it is a Henry Birks and Sons. The serial # on the case is 84542 it is a AWCco case. The serial # on the movement is 1306529. Does anyone know anything about this watch like the date it was made. I was told it was 100 years old. The watch still works.

    Warden,

Welcome to the NAWCC Message Board!

The Birks watch is what is known as a private label or contract watch. Birks didn't make watches, but bought them from numerous manufacturers, mostly Swiss. We see a lot of Longines movements in Birks watches of the era of yours. In order to be sure just what it is, would you kindly post a picture of the movement (the insides)?

Here is a scan of a Henry Birks 16 size pocket watch. As Doug mentioned, this one is Swiss made, but not by Longines. The maker is still (at least to me) unknown.

    Frank,
Where did you get the manufacture date from? Any idea who made the one shown above?

    The date 1905 came from-
Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World by Loomes. This is probably just a date when they were in business. Do not know who made the watch, it looks like a Swiss made movement.

The Birks name goes back a lot farther than 1905! Check out Birks if you are interested.

    Frank:

A picture of the movement would bed helpful if we're going to identify the maker. Ed's example is indeterminate whereas my 16-size,, 19-jewel, lever-set example was Made by a Differeent Manufacturer.

The movement that Warden shows is identical to an 0-size Longines movement illustrated in their 1912 material catalog.
