    Default Haller A.G. Wall clock

    Hello all,
Just been given an old wall clock, face has Haller A.G. and Made in .... on it. The movement has been 'attacked' and parts left in a plastic bag. I guess it is beyond repair! On the movement are the letters T K and I guess the serial number 114,28. Also, 34 cm.
I wondered if anyone on here could tell me anything about it, and also if replacement movements are available.
    Thanks
    Ray

    Ray, Welcome.
If you can post photos of the movement and parts, perhaps we can tell you if anything is missing and help you get it back together.

Hi binman, thanks for the tip, I had a look on Ebay and only saw 2 movements and they were for Haller mantle clocks. I will keep looking.

Ray, welcome to the Message Board.
When you're looking for the same movement, refer to the numbers you've listed above.
114/28 is beats per minute and tooth count of the escape wheel. 34 cm is pendulum length.
If those numbers don't correspond, the movement will not run properly in your clock case.

As promised, here are the pictures of the face and movement. As I said before, I think it is past repair, so I will probably look for a replacement movement.
Sorry for the obvious questions, but as a newcomer to clock 'maintainence', will other movements fit, and what is meant by 34cm? Is it the size of the movement or the length of the pendulum.
    Thanks for you help.

I can't say now, if the movement is beyond repair; they are very rugged and can be
repaired by a good clock repairer.
The pic below shows you what is meant by pendulum length (in your case 34 centimeters).

Producer of your clock was Thomas Ernst Haller AG., Schwenningen. They were taken over by
    Kienzle ca. 1930s.

As a rule of thumb, consider that other movements will not fit.

    Ray,
You said the movement had been "attacked". I have seen many that are much worse. It can be restored to good running condition. I would try to keep everything original if possible. If you do not decide to tackle it yourself, search for a reputable repairer in your area and take it to them. Good luck.

Thanks all for the comments. I would like to try to fix it myself, but know absolutely nothing about clock and watch repairs. Now give me a motorcycle engine!!
If i were to look for a basic book, could anyone recommend such a book?
    Thanks again.

This thread should give you a good idea of what most of us recommend for repair books:

Well All, I have been looking for books, and parts for this clock and so far have had no luck on either. The lists suggested in post #11 are very expensive in UK, so it may well be that I will just look for another movement that will fit in the case.

    Hi,
You have a very nice 1920's wall clock, which is well worth repairing. Haller is a very well known German maker.
    Regards.

    Hello again All,
I decided to have a go at repairing this myself, and the first thing I came across was the cog feeding off the spring has a broken tooth. Are these available? I know the answer will be 'how long is a piece of string?' but if you could help me to identify it I would be most grateful. What information do you need to do this? is it the number of teeth on the shaft or the number on the cog?
Once again, thanks for your help.
