  1. The Three Emperor's Corner - part eight - missed it :(

Missed a nice watch, I mean.
Today, having some extra money, I went to Cracov again to get a nice private label Swiss watch I've seen last time I was there (a few months ago...).

Right here, just by the restaurant tables, there is a watchmaker's estate where I've already bought some nice watches. Unfortunately, the watch turned out to be long gone when I finally could afford to buy it. ...

  2. The Three Emperor's Corner - part seven - a Russian wreck

Back to my homeland again, I'd like to remind you of the old Russian boarder railroad station in Sosnowiec:

Like I said - the station is in terrible state, but it's being refurbished at last.
I got back to this photograph, because here I have another wreck from the time of the old Empire:

  3. An Elgin case report...

    ...on a Wadsworth case.

This post shows an interesting snap-back water resistant Elgin watch case by Wadsworth from circa 1955-1965.

First - assembling a late Elgin 687 movement:

Gotta admit - this movement is small and not so pleasant to work on as the big ones, where everything is so big and easy.
It's a late movement with rather crude, unattractive finish, but ...

  4. And so I got myself a Swiss fake...

A free Saturday - something that does not happen very often, at least not for me.
And so, having a lot of free time, I decided to attend to a D.D.Neveren watch I recently got.
It's a large, circa 6cm watch, bigger than any other pocket watch I have.
A busted, rusty piece missing one hand and crystal, in non-working condition...

  5. And another early Elgin :)

    Very early in fact!

Yesterday I unpacked Fred's mail, despite my initial idea to wait for the case to arrive.
No - I'm not THAT patient to wait. Having a No 558 Elgin in a box and not take a look? No, that's not me

And now that it's unpacked... why not take a look inside?
    No way to wait, again!

In the description, there was a slipping mainspring and gummy balance.
Sounds very typical for an old movement and I admit the movement did look ...
