Pocket watchers,

Here's one that just went across my bench that I thought might be of interest. It's 1892 model 23-jewel Vanguard with up/down indicator:

And, yes! There's a barrel bridge screw seemingly missing! Well, someone before me bust it off, and I couldn't drill it. The right way to do this would be to strip it of all steel parts and soak the pillar plate to dissolve the broken screw. The owner doesn't want to spend the extra money. It's not right, but that's the way it is. It'll stay together okay.

This is the mechanism that drives the indicator hand. The mainspring barrel has teeth. The indicator mechanism during winding shifts over to contact the barrel which re-sets the indicator hand to 0. I've never seen an indicator mechanism like it, and I thought there might be some interest. This watch is apparently 1 of less that 1,000 made.
