Where do American Watch Company Cases marked "Sterling" Fit in chronologically? Were they made after Coin cases, at the same time as Coin cases or before coin cases? Thanks in advance. Keith

I don't have enough examples to begin to guess, but I think they are contemporary with the coin cases. Here is an example with an 1872 model movement and a fairly low serial number, 3552.

Sterling Cased 1872 Am'n grade (http://www.awco.org/AWCo/Other/Sterling72Amn/index.htm).

Keith,

Some of the sterling cases in my collection have appointed pieces (trim) of the case in low carat gold. Note the lower pendant of Tom's 1872 Waltham case that has a gold band. Some also have gold hinge tubes and crowns.
