Can someone shed some light on Dennison case number 767579
I received information that a watch allegedly owned by my late great uncle who died during WW1 in 1918 was in the possession of my second cousin. The serial number for this 1908 model watch indicates that it was manufactured by Waltham circa 1921. Since he died in 1918 it is obviously not his watch. Can someone supply infomation about the case number to see if this corresponds with the same time period as the movement.

cheers

Bruce

The details below are what what was supplied to me by my relative who has possession of the watch.

Watch made by A.W.W.Co Waltham Mass. USA serial no 23975103

Case made by Denison Watch Case Co LTD serial no 767579

Hand made engravings in various places on the case:
FAB large and messy - owners initials
The rest are VERY SMALL and neat - service dates by watchmakers? Some
are by
the same person.

Hi Aussie,

A few posts ago I commented on a Rolex pocket watch that was in a Dennison case. I dated my case to 1924. The serial number on my case is 475071.

I dated it through the silver hallmarks.. an anchor for Birmingham, a "Z" in a shield for 1924.

If the serial numbers are consecutive, I would say your case is older than 1924. However, in your situation, I wouldn't use the case to date the watch. The watch could have been re-cased. I was trying to date my Rolex with the case because I couldn't find info on the watch.

Go with the Waltham number.

For Waltham numbers above 7.5 million we don't have any accurate records of dates. The years you see are just a guess based on gross production numbers.

10 million is around 1900 and they were producing roughly 1 million watches a year. However, the business was beginning to decline and they were losing market share to Elgin. The English sales remained strong.

I would place 23 million as anytime between 1915 and 1920. It depends a lot on the grade. The commoner grades would be nearer to the early date and the higher grades would be later.
