Some time ago I found this picture of a brocot escapement in a plate 1471 clock. Is this someone's science experiment?

EricEric, thanks for posting. I recall having seen this some time ago but evidently didn't save any photos in my files. Do you have photos of the complete clock? Maybe with that I can find what I have. IMO this is not original equipment, however there is no reason it can't be made to work.
I do know of three clock movements that may have had Brocot type escapements originally, all being adaptations by Claude Grivolas of an unidentified German or French round plate movement coupled with a J. J. Meister temperature compensating pendulum. These also have J. J. Meister patent dials, and at least one is presently running with the Brocot escapement.

I guess there's not that much difference between that and a standard pin pallet. The size of the pallet is a consideration, but otherwise similar in function I assume.

The first post in this thread shows the exact style of clock, without the brocot of course.

Also, they're not angels or mermaids as I've seen them refered, but Harpies "the snatchers" from Greek mythology.

Eric, I agree they're neither angels or mermaids, but have seen them described as 'Caryatids' although I think your observation that they are Harpies is much more appropriate considering the wings and stylized clawed feet. For one thing, caryatids didn't have wings . . .

I like "Harpies", but if you look at general mythology references, perhaps "Sirens" would be more appropriate.
