I'm trying to find some information on a pocket watch I've been given. It has "La Salle" imprinted on the dial, the watch has a front and rear cover, on both covers there is a number ( 5023539 ) stamped, which I presume is the serial number. On the back cover is hand etched the number 389208, with, what I assume are a persons initials ( AMY)also etched. The back cover when opened reveals the back cover of the watch, and I'm not sure what purpose this cover serves. Any information about this watch would be appreciated. I cant give you the size, because I dont know how to determine it. I mainly am involved with clocks, perhaps I could also get information on how pocket watches are sized.
Thanks,
Jim Miller

the inner cover is a dust cover that serves the purpose well. Is there any way to get a photo or scan of the watches workings-movement. this is one way to tell who it was made by and also quality of the movement. I have seen other lasalle movements and all were swiss of various quality. They had a post here a while back I believe that dealt with watch size. There are two that are widely used the Lancashire Gauge which measures movement in 32nd of a inch and the Swiss movement sizes in Lingnes which deals with millimeters. If you take a measurement of the movement size can be determined easily.

Jacke, thanks for getting back to me. I'll try to get a picture scanned in. I can measure the watch itself, but it might be a while before I get the nerve to open up the case to expose the workings. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks,
Jim
