Beth Bisbano, the Director of the Library and Research Center (LARC), NWCM has resigned in order to accept another job located much closer to her home. Her last day here is Nov. 27, 2002.

Fortunat Mueller-Maerki, Chair of the Library Committee and Doug Cowan , Acting Executive Director of the NAWCC join in thanking Beth for her dedication and work in the LARC during the last six years. Working closely with Librarian Sharon Gordon and many volunteers as well as recently with Assistant Librarian Nancy Dyer, Beth has led the transformation of the LARC from a cramped collection to a modern, professionally run horological research and lending library. Proper archival storage, launch of a web-enabled library catalog and development of an emergency/ disaster safety program were among her many accomplishments.

In the short term, Sharon Gordon has been appointed Acting Director. She will do a fine job, with the support of volunteers. Meanwhile the Library Committee, The NWCM Trustees and the Acting Executive Director will study the range of available long term options, including but not limited to internal promotions, outside hiring and reorganization.

The LARC in Columbia PA is today the unrivalled global leader among a very small number of specialized horological libraries. It contains around 10,000 horological books and many times that many achival documents concerning timekeeping and timekeepers.
