Hi...anyone know about this Pocketwatch casemaker? I have a Case in 18kt Gold around a Beautiful Hi Grade M.I.Tobias Movement...that appears Original to the Pocketwatch. Would it be American made or English or other? Thanks...Robert

Pics would be great. Would help loads!
The more prolific Liverpool companies imported TONS of movements to the USA, that were then cased here.
This is an EXCITING avenue of collecting "American" watches as the amount of case companies seems to be unlimited and only a modicum of study has been done.
I particularly like the earlier cases with the Eagle hallmark. And I really get excited when an American city is noted on the case. Lets see a pic! Jeff Hess

Hi...I am unable to send pictures. It DOES have an EAGLE engraved on the inner back...but does NOT say 18 or 18kt. The M.I.Tobias is circa 1840. Movement # 5953. Also 18kt gold case is marked with the same # --rraucher@maxinet.com

Robert's watch is in my hands just now and, with his permission, I have added some images and details to my website at http://www.horologia.co.uk/Tobias_gold.html . The eagle looks to me like a reduced copy of the one designed by Christian Gobrecht in 1836 for the larger denominations of American silver coinage.
