Anybody know which railroads, if any, would have approved a 19j "Burlington Special" that was only adjusted to temperature and "positions" (presumably 3 and not 5)?

Barry

P.S. I'm not even going to ask about the supposed "solid gold train of gears" or how new the case is...

Barry, et. al.:

To quote from "Railroad Watches Identification and Price Guide," Roy Ehrhardt & William Meggers, Jr., Heart of America Press, Kansas City, MO, 1995 (Still in print, see Heart of America Press (http://www.hoapress.com)), Burlington Watch Co. watches were accepted in railroad time service by many railroads, notably the Union Pacific, until the early 1940's.[HR][HR]

The book then goes on to list 16-size, 19-jewel, grade 106 and grade 107 Illinois-Burlington watches, as well as grades 107, 108 and 809 21-jewel Illinois-Burlington watches, as being railroad grade.

Unfortunetly, the watch in question seems to be an Illinois grade 185, which Ehrhardt & Meggers failed to mention.

The seller has stated that "... the watch has the original glass crystal ..." I suppose it could be argued that the crystal is original to the case. However, the case is not original to the movement.
