It makes me wonder, sincerely, why we do not have even one reply to my post of Monday, September 19, 2011.
We have had over 100 hits as I type this new posting…yet we suffer from replies to a very important matter…our attendance at these NAWCC meetings. Chapter 1 has the largest membership of all chapters in our Association.
You might think one, two or three NAWCC members would put down their thoughts to this ongoing dilemma. Cited in the earlier posting were a few reasons why attendance is down…surely there are other reasons.
I’m not beating a dead horse…I just am looking for answers…hope we get some replies.

Dan:
I've never been to a chapter 1 meeting, but I have heard that the admission price includes buying lunch, whether you stay for lunch or not. (Please correct me if I have heard wrong.) That could be a deterent. In my own chapter 28, we get as many as 150 people, but the vast majority stay only for the mart (admission is $7; first table is free). Lunch (a hot buffet) is $13 extra if you want it but only about 25 - 35 stay for that. Perhaps pricing the events separately could improve attendance.
Best regards,
Frank

When I sent in my check for $66.00 I paid for two admissions and one table...whether you stayed for lunch or not. ($10 of the $66 was for my yealy dues.) $56.00 pertained to the meeting inclusive.
Frank, what puzzles me...HALF THE TABLES WERE A NO SHOW...EVEN THOUGH THE TABLES WERE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE.
I cannot report on the meal served after the meeting...I never stay for the Luncheon. I may have been to Oaks, PA twice.
I think our fine Communications Director Markus Harris is scheduled to be the Guest Speaker at the next meeting.

I didn't reply because I simply have no answers. Perhaps it is the same for others. I know that the two chapters to which I belong are fighting the same battle.
Was the chapter meeting you attended a mart, or a regular monthly meeting? If it was a regular meeting, neither of my chapters gets anywhere near 150 in attendance; 14 to 30 at one chapter, 30 to 45 at the other.
If it was a mart, then I have no idea why your table holder no-shows were so high. We always have one or two prepaid no shows, but we also have a large turnout of attendees.

Thanks for replying.
This was a regular Chapter 1 meeting. What bothered me were the empty tables that were sold for this meeting.
I still think driving to Oaks, PA is one of the main causes why Chapter 1 membership at these meetings is responsible for lack of attendance. Far too many twists and turns for anyone wishing to attend. If it rained badly or snowed I could understand the table holders not showing up.
We need simple driving access on main highways. Not a lot of turns in an out of the way area.
But it was a day to be cherished, bright, sunny, about 70° and no hint of rain. Since this was only my 2nd show in almost 4 years and while I did not attend the luncheon, which is paid for along with your entrance and tables fee. When we met at other places where the meetings were held, we always had great attendance and the luncheons were well worth it for standing in line waiting for the Luncheon to open.
In my mind…Oaks, PA is not conducive to members driving from the States surrounding Pennsylvania, like New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, DC.
However, my thoughts and $1.25 will get you two good cups of coffee at my favorite restaurant.

Wow! I was in a restaurant the other day and a cup of coffee was $2.89!

I would think living in Ohio would be less costly than living in Pennsylvania.
Do you live upscale?
Poor me...When I pay over $15.95 for a decent dinner...I think I'm being robbed! No wonder my favorite restaurant is mobbed morning, noon and night!

15.95!!!! Wow, for a good steak I expect to pay a lot more unless I stay at home. A good steak from the grocery store is usually over $10 by itself, figure double from a restaurant. Times they are a changin'. Ya know, gas ain't 27 cents anymore.

Richie:
I was not talking about having a good steak. Just a plain, good simple meal like fish or some meat dish.
When I learned to drive and got my first RUMBLE SEAT DODGE in 1938 gasoline was 11c a gallon! I think Filet Mignon was less than a buck a pound. I know skirt tenderloin was 39c a pound.
Of course that was when Philadelphia was the bread-basket of the world. We had more industry than any other city and about 2-1/2 million people.
Trolley car rides cost 5c and it was a card ticket they tore in half and clanked a bell for each ticket sold...it registered the number sold!
