1. Personnel Changes:

Two new positions have been added to Headquarters staff ? a full time Director of Marketing and a part time Administrative Assistant. The Director of Marketing position replaces the position of Director of Special Projects. Sandra Partridge, our new Director of Marketing, brings over 25 years of retail management and marketing experience to our organization. Her duties include marketing to increase membership in our organization, promoting the School of Horology and the Museum. She is also responsible for the overall management of the gift shop. Patricia Baughman, our new part time Administrative Assistant, has worked at Hamilton and will support both the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Director of Development. A search for a Director of Development is currently underway.

Roseann Nickolaus has resigned to spend more time with her family after twelve years of serving our organization in many different ways - gift shop, registrar and coordinator of special events.

2. Membership:

Membership in the organization totals 30,911. Membership has shown a gradual decline. The period from April 1, 2001 to January 31, 2002 showed a net loss of 1,505 with January showing a net loss of 134 members. The Marketing Director is currently looking at new ways to encourage membership retention and to recruit new members.

3.The National Watch and Clock Museum:

During the month of January the Library and Research Center had 233 visitors, circulated 375 items and acquired 50 items by donation or purchase.

Efforts in the Curatorial Department are focused on the development of an exhibit of Pennsylvania clocks scheduled to open on May 7 and funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission. The display of vintage Hamilton watches has been rescheduled to October to coincide with the 110th anniversary of the Hamilton brand.

Museum admissions were down in January as compared to a year ago by 13%, totaling $1,983 for the month. However, the museum?s gift shop sales were up nearly 37% from sales for the month of January last year and the gift ship showed a profit of $3,082.17 for January.

2. The School of Horology:

Students at the School have formed an Alumni Association. The Alumni Association is intended to provide networking opportunities for students, to promote new classes at the school and to be a source of general support for the school. The Alumni Association is planning a regular column in the Bulletin. Development of lesson plans and new courses are on-going. Students from New Jersey and Indiana are now eligible to apply for Trade Act Agreement funds intended to re-educate personnel eligible for retraining under NAFTA for employment. The School continues to operate with financial efficiency and will be on a break-even basis or better at year end.

3. The Facility:

The Borough of Columbia has inspected the house owned by the Association at 558 Poplar St Changes required by the Borough to make the property eligible for rental are being made should it be decided at a later date to rent the property. These changes include upgrades to the electrical system and minor repairs. It is expected that these repairs will be completed by mid-March.

Various repairs to the Headquarters facility have been made. These include replacement of two hot water pumps, repairs to fire alarm controls, repairs of roof leaks and various small repairs.
