OK, I did what I was not supposed to do, and kept working on trying to remove the broken impulse jewel and put a new one in, after I had gotten really fed up with it. Usually I take a break and come back and try again. OK, the watch is a beautiful NOS Molly Stark that was dropped in the store and put in a box in the safe, nobody ever looked at it to see that it was a simple fix.

Can this be done by Humans? Are there little robots that can replace these. I just about had it in there and then shot it out into the land of little springs and parts, never to be seen again. A microscope? Is this something that a staking set would help me do? < I think I really need one!! : )

I was using an eye loupe and the smallest Hemostats/locking tweezers made. Still I couldnt get it in there, and couldnt see if I had removed all of the old one.

I have one more jewel to try, but I want to get it right.

Thanks in advance.

Was the old roller jewel shellaced in place or press fit into the roller? If it's shellaced into place make sure the hole in the roller is completely cleaned out. Work over a smooth, clean, white, shallow gift box to catch the jewel when dropped. Holding it is the hard part. Try something sticky on the end of a toothpick to hold the jewel or force the jewel into a pin hole on the edge of a toothpick for better support. A staking set will not help with this job but if you're going to work on watches you should pick one up. Jim.

Cary,
Try puting a little saliva (spit) on the flat part of a small screwdriver. The roller jewel should stick to it like a magnet. Good Luck.
