View Full Version : Where can you find larger-than-life models of movements or partial movements?
patrick:
I believe that there are large scale models of escapements at the National Watch and Clock Museum (http://www.nawcc.org/museum/nawcc/nmusframe.htm) in Columbia' PA.

If you are talking about the oversized training models used in watchmaking school, these are currently considered collectibles and I don't think they are commercially available any longe.
The animated computer models are very good for explaining what is happening, but you really need a hand operated escapement model with adjustments to get the full feel of it in my opinion.
I am one of quite a few people who collect these things. I will try to get some pictures of them posted on my web site this summer.

Most of the models are escapement models. They are difficult, but not impossible to find. The Barkus model of the lever escapement was available from supply houses in the recent past. It is a very large mostly plastic item.
Usually one or two antique or vintage escapement models show up at the National and at the major regional marts like Orlando and Dearborn.

I made up a small web page to show the models I have. You should be able to click on this image to see the page.

My web connection is acting up and won't let me see my recent postings. Here is the link to the models page (http://mcintyre.com/McIntyre/Literature/horological_models.htm) on my web site.

To funny Tom! I was the under bidder on the model with the movement, or one just like it.

I should have been there! I paid more than I was comfortable with to a New England dealer for it. http://www.nawcc.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif
