 In reading your question it implies that the 2974B was related to the 974 in some way. We have discussed this subject before on this board and you may find the thread and see what was said concerning this subject.
The 2974B was introduced in 1941 for the military and is basicly a 992B with a hack feature and minus some cap jewels.
The 974 was first manfactured in 1900 and enjoyed many years of production. The breakdown of the production fiqures according to Ehrhardt bookk are.[LIST]
974-Gilt 14,000
974L- 93,645
974PSpl.-11,500
974LSpl.-12,903
I would consider the 974 and the 974Spl. a poor mans working watch and many streetcar and bus drivers used one including my grandfather.

Chris,
You are correct. Jim has a fantastic wealth of knowledge on Hamilton watches and is willing to share it. As a novice in this "watch world" he has given me insight to many newbie questions.Although I have strayed over into the Illinois camp he still tolerates me. Just don't get him started on those Hamilton watch boxes!
