“Time King” is easily the best (most evocative and poetic) grade name ever!

Which came first, the Columbus or the Illinois?

Annie,

The Columbus Time King was introduced in late 1894 and then replaced by the 21j Railway King in 1900. According to Meggers' Illinois book, the Illinois Time King marked mvts date from 1898 to 1926.

Here's a view of the dial:

So many grade-names were written on the movement where only the owner and his watchmaker sees them and not on the dial where everyone sees them. Seems to me Columbus got it right with the Time King -- firstest with the mostest!

Hi Ron,

I keep my collection in a safe deposit box at the bank for security and peace of mind. Do you? A 10" x 10" x ca. 20" box can hold alot of watches.

As for where I live, it's a delightful area. My sons walk to school, there is an excellent trail system that I walk and/or run on nearly everyday (except today...it's snowing), there is a canyon nearby, some state parks, a river, a wooly mammoth locality, etc. But like I tell people: Colorado is a terrible place to live. Please don't move here.

Now, may I ask you if at any time soon you'll ever post a scan of one of your watches? Or do you just ask inane questions of people who actually take the time and make the effort to share a picture or two on the board? And spare me the "I'm too busy" nonsense. I know several MDs and even they find the time to do a few fun things once in a while.

Doc Ron,
Were you on some pain medicine when you posted your reply? Maybe you forgot to edit before hitting the post key. In any case LIGHTEN UP.
