E.W.C.Co. might stand for the Essex Watch Case Co., a manufacturer of gold-filled cases marked 14K.

The case company in Elgin was actually the Illinois Watch Case Co., makers of the "Elgin Giant" cases.

You might want to check on the case marking to see if the letters are not actually B.W.C.Co. This would be the Brooklyn Watch Case Co., who used the symbol of a Stag or a Stag's head on their "Granger" grade of gold filled cases.
