<<EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR?S REPORT
FOR AUGUST 2001
Nancy D. Connelly, Ph.D.

1. The Chiller Noise Issue: G.R. Sponaugle & Sons, Inc. will install four sound attenuation devices on the four York chiller discharge air fans by the end of September.

2. Museum Staff: Michele K. Nichols, Acting Museum Curator, has informed us of her resignation effective September 27, 2001. She is getting married October 7. She and her future husband have chosen to begin their lives together in Rhode Island where he is a teacher at St. Andrew?s School in Barrington, Rhode Island. Michele began work at the museum on June 5, 2000 and, although she has been with us only a little over a year, she has made significant contributions to our operations, especially in the areas of collections management, museum signage, staff training and exhibit development. A search for her replacement is underway.

3. Museum Assessment Program: Collections, Library, Gift Shop and Administrative staff are continuing to work on the MAP institutional assessment project, which is due September 15.

4. Grants: The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Museum Project Operations Grant Awards will be announced in mid-September.

5. Special Donations: We have received a donation of images from Great Big Pictures, Inc; the images consist of photographs of dials and clock movements, which are printed on Plexiglas. The images are designed to be backlit and can be used decoratively in public areas of Headquarters and the School. More donations from Great Big Pictures will follow this spring.

6. Meeting Attended: I have attended regional meetings at Syracuse and at Houston. The gift shop was represented at both regional meetings. I appreciate the many volunteers who so ably staffed the shop at these meetings.

7. Fund Raising: Individual prospects are being identified and ranked. Solicitations are being made to individual companies.

8. Volunteer Dinner: Lee Davis, our volunteer coordinator, held a volunteer appreciation dinner on August 11. Details of this function will appear in the October Mart.
