Hello,

I have a like new gold plated $20? Colibri coin pocketwatch with $20? fob. Is this watch worth repairing? It looks great, the hands will set, but it won't wind. Anyone ever seen one and know what kind of movement it has, etc.?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,

Colibri is a company that came into prominence in the '80s and '90s making cigarette lighters and inexpensive bric-a-brac like business card holders. Their entry into the watch scene post-dated the introduction of the quartz movement, and I feel it's a safe bet that what you have is a quartz pocket watch. This means, of course, no winding needed or possible. However, a new battery might just get you going.

Thanks, Greg -

I didn't think about it being quartz --
I'll see if I can figure out how to get it open !

Greg,

I got it open, and sure enough it has a 371 battery, which I will replace tomorrow.

I bought it with some other things, and it doesn't really matter if it's valuable --
it looks pretty !

Thanks again for your help.

Jim
