Newbie to watches. Looking to purchase this watch because like Seth Thomas Clocks. Here is some information.
Seth Thomas pocket watch from 1906 with a beautiful gold filled case. The movement was made by "Seth Thomas in Thomaston Conn." and is stamped on the movement, along with the serial number #920720.
The gold filled case was made by the Illnois Watch Case Co., and is 1-5/8" at the widest point. It is marked on the opposite inside case of the movement with: Illinois Watch Case Co. Elgin, USA Guaranteed 10 Years Supreme serial #3367565.
Is this a decent watch? Any history or information to be had? It is running as well. Advice/Info/Opinions very much appreciated, thanks. http://i12.ebayimg.com/03/i/04/46/40/0a_12_sb.JPG http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/04/48/bb/77_12_sb.JPG http://i14.ebayimg.com/03/i/04/40/a0/ea_12_sb.JPG

Hi popeye:
Not being able to see the movement, I'll go out on a limb. The 1-5/8 diameter makes it a ladies' watch. There were some higher grade ladies movements made and a lot of inexpensive ones as well. Since the description doesn't include the information that its a 17-jewel watch, adjusted to temperature and position, I'll guess that its not any of these. The dial looks like its single-sunk and its got a hairline cluster at the 17 minute location, probably where a dial foot is. While the movement is in a gold-filled case, its only a 10-year case, not very impressive.
So, if its cheap, have fun and get it. If the bidding gets to be more than you might spend for lunch with your significant other in a medium restaurant, I'd suggest you wait for a higher grade watch.

popeye,
I'm going to venture a guess that it is a 6-size model 17. The Seth Thomas book compiled by Chris Bailey indicates that the hunter cased model 17 was made in 7 different grades and with jewel counts from 7 jewels to 16, and all hunter cased 17s were either two-tone or nickel. The book indicates that none of the grades were adjusted to position, and that approximately 50,000 17s were made in all grades.

So it is a lady's watch? Am I in trouble here? I am not of that faith.
