ffffg,

Magnetizing a steel hairspring or balance wheel is more likely to have an effect on the operation of an older style watch. They usually gain, but they may also lose as serious magnetism can cause them to stop and start. Of course, if the conditions exist to magnetize any part of the watch, it is likely that all steel parts, including the mainspring will become magnetized. Have you seen a change in the rate of the watch since manipulating the hands?

Reagrds,
Doug S.

yes, the watch picked up time when i touched it with magnitized tweezers, in fact another watch has done the same that i have freed the mainspring with a magintized knife with the help of a cock repairman..
the hands jumped to the tweezers when i fist pickt them up with the tweezers and than after that they didnt any more, and the watch got much faster, from one minute to 5 minutes a day...
but the balance wheel is in very bad shape, out of round, off cneter and wobbleing up and down... the watch was to have been servised ..the balance wheel was worse than a wheel on a wooden cart, and runnung well... im sorry to say its a typical ebay watch with a nice case.. thanks dave....
