Hi, I went to the AWco.org and typed in my Waltham Pocket Watch serial number. The site did give me some information, but I cannot find a "key" to explain what the abbreviations mean. Material: U

Everything else I know. Could someone please explain to me the above two abbreviations or direct me to the site where the "key" to terms is listed. Thanks so much, Elaine

After around 1920 Waltham distinguished three grades of watch material. "P" grade material is for watches adjusted to 5 or 6 positions (the best quality watches). "A" grade material is for watches adjusted to (usually) three positions. "U" grade material is for unadjusted watches (usually 7-15 jewel watches). The serial number records included this material grade designation so the watchmaker would know what material to order.

I do not know what the comment notation refers to in your case.
