Hi there:

Any opinions on this one? I have not been able to find much on the NAWCC site that shows a watch exactly like this.

Well, it gives the appearance of a model `57, but it isn't one. It also appears to have an expansion balance, but I can't quite see a cut in the rim. And, I don't think that I've seen a regulator arm quite like the one pictured.

So, all in all, I'd say it was a Swiss fake.

Edited to correct spelling.

Kent,

I checked Ehrhardt & Meggers American Pocket Watches ID & Price guide, and they list Springfield, and these are New York Watch Co., and Springfield Mass. (not Conn.), and these are Hampden. So I agree. I think it is Swiss.

Grant,

Not even close to an 1857 model Waltham, except for the case which has been SWITCHED!

Everything is incorrect: the gilding, the finish, the color, the dial and probably the two dial feet, the engraving, the balance, the jewels, the BB shape, the winding area--everything!

This one is one of the more common ones and sellers (many times) on fleabay love to offer these watches in hopes of hooking the uninformed and "newbies."

The only value in this lot is the worn silver case!

I figured as much. I had no intention of bidding as the statement "Key missing so don't know if running" was enough to scare me away
If I'm selling a watch, I know the monetary value of a watch is increased if I can say it is running. If not....IMO...beware.
Happy New Year!
