Several recent topics about two-tone movements on the Chapter #149 section have inspired me to share some pictures of a few of mine. My sincere thanks go out to Tom McIntyre for generously hosting the images shown below. I strongly encourage those interested in sharing images from their collections to send them to Tom, and allow him to host them!
An Aurora, 18s, 15j, HC, LS, just a few numbers away from one posted the other day by Greg Frauenhoff. Greg told me that all the known examples of these fall within a group of 150 serial numbers: http://www.awco.org/archive/Maddox/SM001TWOTON~1.JPG
A Rockford, 18s, 17j, HC, LS, about which I haven't been able to find much information. If anyone knows the grade of this movement and the estimated production, I'd appreciate hearing from them. It's not listed in Ehrhardt's "Rockford" book: http://www.awco.org/archive/Maddox/SM002TWOTON~2.JPG
A Rockford, 18s,15j, HC, LS, Grade 84. Total production is supposed to be 6,900: http://www.awco.org/archive/Maddox/SM003TWOTON~3.JPG
A Columbus, 18s, 16j, OF, LS, "Railway King." This movement looks almost exactly like the one below, which is the HC version of the same thing: http://www.awco.org/archive/Maddox/SM004TWOTON~4.JPG
A Columbus, 18s, 16j, HC, LS, "Railway King." This movement is almost identical to the OF one above. The only difference I notice is that the one above has gilded plate screws, while the ones in this one are polished steel: http://www.awco.org/archive/Maddox/SM005TWOTON~5.JPG
A Rockford, 18s, 15j, OF, LS/PS, Grade 87. Serial number lists indicate that 5,500 of these were produced. Note the lever set/pendant set option: http://www.awco.org/archive/Maddox/SM006TWOTON~6.JPG
A Hamilton, 18s, 21j, OF, LS, "940." I know they're not extremely uncommon, but can anyone tell me how many two-tone 940 models Hamilton made? http://www.awco.org/archive/Maddox/SM007TWOTON~7.JPG
And finally, an Illinois, 16s, 23j, HC, LS, "Sangamo," which was shown previously in a thread that was subsequently deleted. Ehrhardt's "Illinois" book indicates that 700 of these were produced, but I'm not sure if all of them were two-tones or not. I believe that Terry Hall indicated that he had one of these that wasn't a two-tone, but I'm not sure if it was an open face (model 5) or a hunting case (model 4). http://members.aol.com/lrhorology/SangamoMvmt.JPG
As exemplified by the Sangamo in the image above, many Illinois watches have pink colored two-tone work. Was this characteristic unique to Illinois products, or did other companies make some models with pink colored two-tone work as well?
I hope everyone enjoys the pictures, and any additional information will be greatly appreciated!
