Proposal for Determining the Voter Demographics of the 2001 Election
(Frank Del Greco)

Summary
I propose that the election ballots be tabulated to determine the voter
demographics of the 2001 election. Members were required to put their state of
residence on their ballots. It is a simple matter to tabulate those demographics
and provide that information to Council, the Membership and Publicity committee,
and the membership.

Knowing the state of residence of the voters can provide benefits to the
Association and its members. As we know, voter turnout was low. The demographics
provide the following benefits:
1. If we assume that voters are more active members than non-voters, then
knowing which states had the highest percentage of voters can help headquarters
determine which states may provide the highest level of volunteerism.
2. From (1) it follows that voters are more likely to provide funding to the
Association for endowment funds and special projects. It allows headquarters to
plan funding campaigns more cost-effectively.
3. The candidates that stood for election spent a considerable amount of money
on their campaigns. Knowing which states have the highest voter turnout can help
future candidates spend their campaign dollars more effectively.

I volunteer to do the tabulation and demographics.

Motion

I move that the ballots from the 2001 election be made available for tabulating
the voter demographics, and that the results be reported to Council, the M&P
committee and the membership.
