Does any one know what type of wood was used on banjo's, I have Howard type clock that I beleive is a Hatch I think it is made of Cherry but not sure.
What types of wood was used in the 1870 on them?

It's one of the3 following:
Cherry
Mahogany
Walnut, or
Rosewood (veneer)
Those are the only common woods used that I know of. Find online grain smaples and wood descriptions, and compare. My guess is that yours is Cherry.
