I found this set at an auction yesterday. It has been messed with a little but is in pretty good overall condition and is running well. I don't have any idea who made this set and I'm hoping for some help in finding out who did.

The movement is not the typical round French type I expected to find in it and has no marks other than these patent dates. On the left side of the rear plate is Eng. Pat. Dec 5 89 and on the right side are US Pat.'s Sep16 90 and Jan 19 92.

I have been searching the internet and looked at all the sets on Savage and Polite's but have had no success. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, TB Perry

TB: It's a beautiful set, no doubt. Nice find. :thumb:

I found a similar set in Tran's New Haven book, called the Triad Set. A different dial, and the ceramics on the set in Tran's catalogue picture are different, but it came in dark blue, or dark green "porcelain" bowl with gold finish trimmings. Shown for 1900. Perhaps this is what you have. But I suppose it is not impossible that others also used the same set with their own movements.

FWIW: The two U.S. patent dates may well relate to patents granted to Frederic A. Lane of New Haven, CT, for "Improvements to Clock-Movements."

Sure looks like New Haven's "Triad Set" to me. The catalog picture I'm looking at seems to have identical ceramic portions as well. The hands are typical New Haven hands for their fancier clocks. The movement is unusual, but looks American. There is another unmarked movement used in their Cabinet No. 10 which is unlike any New Haven movement used anywhere else, and it is in only some of the Cabinet No. 10s I've seen. They seem to have at least some history of using unusual, unmarked movements in very limited circumstances.
