Does Timesavers sell the small bolt that is used to hold the movements in the cast iron clocks? Have hit all the hardware stores in town and they do not sell anything close to the size I need

It is probably a common size, found in hardware stores. But in order to order or request any bolt, you need to specify the thread size. Do you have a thread gauge and know how to use it?

No, no thread gauge here. I will see if I can find one on Monday when I go for coffee. I did take one of the bolts with me when I went to the hardware stores though.

I can't remember for certain, but I believe those are either 4-40 or 6-32, but they are longer than you usually find in the specialty hardware bins. If you can determine the diameter, pitch, and length of the screws, you can probably get them from British Metrics Division of Scottish Imports, Ltd. Tel: 1-800-762-5134 (Maryland warehouse) or 1-800-848-4418 (South Carolina warehouse). Their name notwithstanding, they carry standard American sizes,as well as British Standard, Whitworth, and Metric Hardware. They supplied, and I recently bought, a tap and die for making my own 8mm WW lathe drawbars and collets, for example. That was a very unusual thread. The usual disclaimers apply.

Clock,

These little machine screw packs only cost about 80 cents each.

6-32, 8-24, and 8-32 are common. Round slotted head brass are good. But you can heat the plated ones to red hot and plunge them in oil if you want to try and duplicate the old ones. Unplated fasteners are just about a thing of the past but they are out there.

I think MilSpec Fasteners still manufactures unplated hardware in both "soft" steel and stainless, but I do not know if they will sell in quantities smaller than a gross.
