I've searched the forum and I don't find this addressed- Does anyone have a better way to remove the 4 tabbed retaining washers from winding arbors? You see them on Kieninger movements. I've used a screwdriver to pry them up a bit and then use lifting levers, but it is not easy to do and can mar the plate. There's got to be a better way... :/:

Hello Milltime,
The washers can be removed by getting something thin and sharp behind them,, if you are carefull they may be reused, however they can be purchased very cheaply from Black Forest Imports. A 10 pack will cost about $5.70,, you mite want to have some on hand when you put it back togeher.
happy clocking to all

A plastic iPod case spudger is ideal and doesn't scratch the plate. But before I knew about spudgers, I did OK with small screwdrivers, but I put a thin feeler gauge under it to avoid scratches.

I use an awl in between the tabs to bend the tabs up and release the retainer. Many times it will split and be completely free. I keep new ones in stock for these movements and Hermle movements.

Thanks for the great ideas. I ended up using the cutoff disk on my rotary tool to cut off 2 tabs, which worked fine. Now, the only problem is that they are backordered at Black Forest until December! Maybe I'll get lucky and a local hardware store will have them.

Try Timesavers. That is where I get mine and they have never admitted to being out of them.

Thanks guys for the tip about Timesavers. I ordered them yesterday (and they are in stock). I had looked in their catalog previously and did not see them. You might think that they would be near the Hermle retaining washers but are not! :/:
