View Full Version : Parts wanted

While the authorities are working on whether to introduce a "Wanted" forum, I'm starting this thread as an ongoing place (much like the "Hall of Shame" thread) where one of us who needs something can post his need, and hopefully hear from somebody who has one, or can tell him where to get it. I'm posting it under "Clock Repair", since the need for parts is a permanent aspect of doing repairs.

When there's a matchup, the actual transaction should be handled by PM or email. No discussion of actual prices on-list...the "No For Sale" rule applies here as elsewhere on the MB. If you reply to a request, please quote the post you're replying to.

Either the thread will work, and serve a useful purpose, or it won't. But it's worth a try.

=============

For starters, I'm looking for a suspension unit for a Kundo quartz anniversary clock: suspension spring, top & bottom blocks, and a single-prong permanently attached "fork" that is impulsed by a flipper in the movement.

If you have one, or know where I can get one, please post a reply and let me know. I've had no luck in the usual catalogs.

Check out Timesavers on-line catalog at http://www.clock-keys.com/pdf/Categories/suspension%20springs.pdf . I did't check to see if the links for each suspension unit are live, but if they are, you should be able to compare yours with what they have available. I just checked, and there doesn't appear to be a way to call up a picture of each unit. You might be able to use the I/D numbers on the back of the movement, and cross-reference it with the catalog numbers.

It will work if we make it work. :thumb: Since there is currently no prohibition of it, it could easily be given its own section, as was done recently for dial inquiries and case inquiries. That would help greatly, if each mention of the part wanted were posted bearing a separate title for the inquiry. With that in place, it would be simple to scroll through the titles, functioning as an index for each item that is being sought.

To help get the ball rolling, I'd like to find a pendulum weight and rod assembly for a Gilbert Hollywood.

Thanks Doug (ref: suspension unit for quartz Kundo). I'd already checked their Print catalog with no luck. If the exact item doesn't show up, I may be able to cobble something together from their offerings.

BY THE WAY... in a thread like this, it always helps to Quote the post you're referring to, or identify the item. Helps to avoid confusion.

Bang, if you are dead set on restoring it to abnormal, and you have had no success in finding one, please give me a shout in a few weeks. I have one that is working fine but I am not enamored with it in general. It will still keep time with the spring gone and I can cobble one together with one of the twisted suspension springs that I have.:D I am going to visit my brother in New Hampshire for a couple of weeks, but if you haven't found one by the last of October or November, give me a shout and I'll tear this one apart and send it to you bro..

Merritts catalog shows them on p 109. Then quartx movement ones are on the right hand side of the page, in a separate listing from the mechanical suspensions units.

I'm always looking for bulk quantities of dead Telechron Rotors. (Primarily B's, maybe H-3's).

I can always use them as "parts cars".

I can pay with $'s or trade good/rebuilt rotors.

If you have a pile of these "dead soldiers" that you want to get rid of, then please PM me.

Now how do I say this delicately? Well, I am in the need of a pair of balls. Yes, two isn’t enough for my pendulum. So, if anyone has a spare pair for this Kienzle style pendulum I would very much like to hear from them (via a PM of cause). Oh, these are not your run of the mill lead filled balls, these have steel insert.

Hey Peetah

Looks like you need a cup for one of your balls too!

It might be helpful to know how much one of your balls weigh. If you can manage stick one on a small weight scale let us know how heavy they are.

I'll search my balls and see if I can find a mate. Not sure if color matters, I think mine are shiney-er than yours cause I washed them.

Let us know :)

I agree; a good idea, IF once the person has the parts needed, the posting and the related comments can be deleted.

Otherwise, we will have to scroll through pages of junk, especially if those that don't get a reply, re-post again.

I know this isn't a clock item, but, since it is a part I am having trouble locating, I will try here. I need a balance spring (hairspring) for a 16s Longiennes "Comfort" 8 day pocket watch. If possible, I would prefer one already mounted on a collet, but I suppose if I have to, I can use the old collet over.

Might have better luck Dave to post this in the pocket watch forums, repairing.More watch people there ,than here likely.

Jim, a PM is a private message. If you click on a member's name, the second choice in the dropdown menu is send a private message. You are notified when you have one either by email, or under the "your notifications" indicator on the top right of the page, under your name.

Harold,
Thanks for the explanation. I was unfamiliar with this communication mode.

I need a decent Seth Thomas 8D Lyre movement type clock dial. Flat preferred. Flat meaning not having the raised chapter ring.

They could be from an 8 day OG or a triple decker... or???

Thanks, Ralph

Is that the half dead-beat type? You may have to make one, or have it made for you.

Here are the pics for the Ingraham movement that I need a verge for. It is one of the movements that is mounted to the rear board, and the movement is pinned together. It is marked with a Nov 11 79 patent date. and it is a 48 tooth escape wheel.

Thank you all for your help! I truly appreciate it

That does look like a half dead-beat. Contact David LaBounty by PM (private message) and explain what you need. He'll ask for a couple of measurements, and will be able to fabricate a verge for you. This is probably not one you want to tackle yourself, but if you do, we can give you some help.

LOL I do not have the tools or the knowledge at this point to try and make a verge...... I have had a couple of PM's from others that think that they may have a verge to fit this in their junk boxes, and if not I will contact Mr. LaBounty. I did pick up a few "Similar" junk movements but they were made in the 20's and the verge was not compatable with the older movements, they were basically the same, but the verge pin on the newer movements had been moved just a couple of hairs lower so that it would not work. I have a whole new respect and liking for this style Ingraham clock and movement, Every one of these that I have purchased with the exception of this one have run like a champ! Just a bit of tweaking with the regulating and are are great! Nice styling and a healthy gong on the hour! must be that American pride that these were built with, that and most of them have a century plus of maintenance dates on the back!!
